About the album Wishbone Four

Wishbone Ash released their fourth studio album, titled Wishbone Four, in May 1973. The album marked a departure from their previous epic, Argus. The style became more direct and mainstream rock, incorporating elements of folk, hard rock, and ballads. They introduced wind instruments for the first time (on "No Easy Road") and made more use of acoustic guitars.

The music was collectively written by the entire group (Martin Turner, Andy Powell, Ted Turner, Steve Upton). Most of the lyrics were penned by bassist and vocalist Martin Turner, with the exception of "Rock 'N Roll Widow," which was written by Steve Upton. The recordings of Wishbone Four were made in February and March 1973 at Olympic and Apple Studios in London. It was the first time the band undertook the self-production of their album, departing from their collaboration with Derek Lawrence.

The album experienced commercial success, reaching No. 12 on the UK charts and No. 44 on the US Billboard 200. Despite its commercial performance - selling 60,000 copies in the United Kingdom - it received mixed reviews due to its "blurred" production during the mastering stage.
