About the album Machine Head
The year 1972 is a landmark year for the band Deep Purple as they release Machine Head, one of the best examples of hard rock from the seventies. Here we have an album whose first side opens with Highway Star and the second with Smoke On The Water (!)
The title of the album Machine Head is the name of the tuning pegs found at the top of the guitar that allow each musician to tune its strings. The production features the members of Deep Purple, but the sound engineer is Martin Birch. The album was recorded in Montreux, Switzerland, and the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio was used. The entire recording took three weeks.
Machine Head sold 2,000,000 copies in the U.S. and reached No.7 on the Billboard chart. In Britain, it reached No.1 with 100,000 sales, and in France, it has sold 200,000 copies.
