About the album Led Zeppelin IV
1971 found Led Zeppelin launching their career and propelling it to great heights. IV was the landmark album that placed them at the top. When Led Zeppelin IV was first released, the calendar read November 8, 1971.
Led Zeppelin secluded themselves at Headley Grange, a farmhouse where they focused solely on composing their songs. The group insisted on having no title, but instead replacing it with 4 symbols they had chosen themselves. In fact, they did not deliver the recordings until their request was satisfied – which it was! The iconic cover with the old man carrying tied branches on his back turned out to be a black and white photograph from 1892, which had been processed to become colored. The photograph was taken by a photographer named Ernest Howard Farmer.
Sales of Led Zeppelin IV have now exceeded 37,000,000 copies worldwide. 24,000,000 have been sold in the USA.
