About the album 1984

The sixth studio album by Van Halen in 1984 will be marked by an evident change in the group's musical style towards glam metal, which at that time was beginning to gain ground.

The sound of the album was different from the sound of previous works as Eddie Van Halen had discovered synthesizers and was experimenting heavily with them. This was something that brought reactions from both producer Ted Templeman and David Lee Roth, who did not want synthesizers to become a permanent fixture in Van Halen's compositions. 1984 would be the last album for David Lee Roth until 2012.

The album sold like crazy in the U.S. - its sales there now exceed 10,000,000 copies, while the singles "Jump" and "Panama" stood out in the rest of the world.
