No Heavy Petting by UFO
About the album No Heavy Petting
With the release of No Heavy Petting in May 1976, UFO successfully reached their fifth studio album. The album was produced by Leo Lyons, with whom the band collaborated for the third and final time. UFO officially included keyboardist Danny Peyronel in their lineup, making them a five-member band.
No Heavy Petting is yet another album in the musical style that UFO fans had come to expect from the band, namely a balanced narrative between the hard rock and heavy metal of the mid-1970s. The two singles from the album were Can You Roll Her and Highway Lady, but they were only released in the Japanese market. No Heavy Petting features Belladonna, one of the most classic hard rock ballads. Michael Schenker and Phil Mogg were the main composers of the album's songs, although this doesn't mean that the other members didn't contribute as well.
The distinctive cover was the work of the design team Hipgnosis. The album's title translates loosely to "no heavy petting" and was posted as a phrase in public restrooms in England in the '70s and '80s (!) No Heavy Petting stands as one of the best works in UFO's catalog.
