De Stijl by The White Stripes
About the album De Stijl
The musical duo of Jack White and Meg White - who were no longer a couple - continued to impress with their second album, De Stilj, released in June 2000. The second album of the White Stripes was recorded in the living room of Jack White's home in Detroit on an eight-track analog tape recorder. In this way, a raw blues side of the songs is conveyed, which in 2000 seemed to be light-years away from the flawless digital productions of that time.
The thirteen songs that make up the album were all compositions by the White Stripes except for Death Letter and Your Southern Can Is Mine, which were covers. The only single from the album was Hello Operator.
Despite the fact that the album received very positive reviews from music critics, it did not manage to become a huge success. In the United Kingdom, it reached No. 137.
