All Mod Cons by The Jam
About the album All Mod Cons
All Mod Cons is the third studio album by the English band The Jam and is considered one of the most important records of the British rock scene. It was recorded between July and September 1978 at RAK and Eden Studios in London. The production was done by Vic Coppersmith-Heaven, while some tracks were overseen by Chris Parry.
The album marked the transition from the raw punk sound of the early records to a more mature and complex style. It combines the aggressiveness with the melodiousness of the British Invasion (influences from The Kinks and The Beatles) and elements of Mod Revival. Most of the songs were written by Paul Weller, except for the cover of David Watts (Ray Davies of The Kinks). Weller's lyrics include social critique, narratives about everyday British life, and personal quests, earning him the title of "spokesperson of a generation."
The album reached No. 6 in the United Kingdom and went gold, selling over 100,000 copies. The magazine NME named it "Album of the Year" for 1978.
