About the album Flying Start
Flying Start is the second studio album by the band Blackbyrds, a jazz funk and jazz fusion band from Washington D.C. The album was released in November 1974, while its recordings took place between August and October of the same year at Sound Factory in Hollywood.
Behind the Blackbyrds was the name of trumpeter and Howard University music professor Donald Byrd, who collaborated with some of his students to form the Blackbyrds. The eight compositions that make up Flying Start are the result of collaboration among the various members of the band. The production of the album is the work of Donald Byrd. The song Walking In Rhythm became a big hit in the mid-1970s, reaching No. 6 on the Billboard, a success that traveled beyond the borders of the U.S.A.
Flying Start as an album reached No. 30 on the Billboard. Despite the passage of time, this particular album remains one of the most characteristic sounds of black music in the heart of the '70s.
