About the album Caravanserai
The mood of musical experimentation that had begun on the previous album continues and is even more intense on Santana's fourth album, titled Caravanserai. Caravanserai was released in 1972 and its recording lasted from February to May 1972.
Santana wanted to promote the album with a world tour, which brought them to perform their music live on all continents except Africa. A small sample of the atmosphere of these performances has been recorded on the triple live-recorded LP Lotus from the concerts the band gave on July 3 and 4, 1973, at Osaka Kōsei Nenkin Kaikan in Japan.
Caravanserai closed a chapter for the band Santana, as many members left the band after it. The album reached No. 8 in the United States, No. 6 in the United Kingdom, and held high positions on the charts of other countries.
