The Blackbyrds return to discography with City Life exactly one year after their second album. City Life is released in November 1975 and is another album where jazz fusion is married with funk music.
From this album, the singles City Life, Flying High, Happy Music, and Rock Creek Park stood out, all of which managed to enter the Billboard Top-100. The production of the album belongs once again to Donald Byrd.
The record reached No. 16 on the Billboard. It is the Blackbyrds' album with the highest position on the American chart. Its sales exceeded 500,000 and it went gold in the USA.
