About the album Animal Magnetism

The Scorpions welcome the new decade of the '80s with Animal Magnetism. The album features a sound that takes the band further and makes it clear to fans of the German band that the underlying progressive musical pursuits of the '70s have been buried in the past for good. Animal Magnetism stands as a bridge that carries the German rockers from one era to another.

The album title was an inspiration of the then drummer Herman Rarebell, while the cover was yet another provocative cover, also made by the team of Hipgnosis. Another interesting thing that happened on this particular album was that for the first time the Scorpions used strings for the song Lady Starlight. Many consider the title track Animal Magnetism as an early example of doom metal. The production of Animal Magnetism was by Dieter Dierks, who gave a sharper sound to the album's songs.

In the U.S.A., over the years, and due to the group's subsequent success there, it has sold 1,000,000 copies. In Germany, it reached No12 at the time of its release.
