Straight Between The Eyes by Rainbow
About the album Straight Between The Eyes
The sixth studio album by Rainbow titled Straight Between The Eyes is a joint effort by Ritchie Blackmore, Joe Lynn Turner, and Roger Glover. Its sound bears no resemblance to the early works of Rainbow from the previous decade. For example, Stone Cold, which was the first single from the album, could easily be a song by Foreigner, a band for which Blackmore had expressed his admiration. Roger Glover has taken on the production of this album as well.
The album's title comes from a remark by Blackmore to Jeff Beck. Blackmore, wanting to express his admiration for Jimi Hendrix the first time he heard him play live, told Jeff Beck that Hendrix's guitar "hit him straight between the eyes." The cover is another work by the design team Hipgnosis, which literally created the phrase by Ritchie Blackmore.
Straight Between The Eyes reached No. 5 in the UK and No. 30 in the USA and is justifiably considered one of Rainbow's most commercially successful albums.
