About the album Down To Earth

The fourth album in the series by Rainbow comes in 1979 titled Down To Earth and is a transitional album, but also indicative of where Ritchie Blackmore wants to lead the Rainbow lineup in the coming years. The band's sound, without deviating from the hard rock style of the previous albums, seems to have an orientation towards something less complex and more radio-friendly. It's no coincidence that their first commercial success in a single is Since You Been Gone, which entered the UK's Top-10. On the other hand, we cannot ignore a progressive aesthetic present in songs like Eyes Of The World or Makin' Love.

These are not accidental as many changes have been made. The production belongs to Roger Glover, who also plays bass, the drummer is Cozy Powell, on keyboards we have Don Airey, and most importantly, Ronnie James Dio has left and his place in performing the songs has been taken by Graham Bonnet.

The album with the 100,000 copies it sold in Great Britain and reaching No.6 on its chart is considered one of Rainbow's greatest commercial successes.
