About the album Creatures Of The Night
Between July and September 1982, KISS recorded Creatures Of The Night in Los Angeles and New York. The album, which is the tenth in their career, is titled Creatures Of The Night and is a purely hard rock album that, in several places, delves into the American heavy metal sound of the early '80s. The exact release date in the American market was October 28, 1982.
Apart from its successful singles I Love It Loud, Killer, and the eponymous title track Creatures Of The Night, the album has been a pivotal point in KISS's career as it was the last album of the band where the members appeared on the cover with the classic makeup that made them famous. From the next album and for the next ten years, the makeup would be absent from every public appearance of KISS. Additionally, it is the album in which guitarist Ace Frehley, despite being credited, had no involvement as he had left. In reality, some of the guitar parts were played by Vinnie Vincent, who also co-wrote three songs. Another noteworthy point of the album is Rock And Roll Hell, a song with the writing signature of Gene Simmons and of Jim Vallance and ... Bryan Adams (!)
Creatures Of The Night did not manage to bring KISS back to the position they were a few years earlier, despite being a very good hard rock album. In the U.S. - the band's primary audience - 500,000 copies were sold, and it barely reached No. 45 on the Billboard. The misstep of the previous year with Music from "The Elder," the differences between the members, and over ten years of presence in the American rock reality had fatigued the rock audience.
