Alice In Chains by Alice In Chains
About the album Alice In Chains
In the mid-1990s, things for Alice In Chains didn't seem to be progressing as well as they had started at the beginning of the decade. The main reason was the drug addiction of the band's singer and main songwriter, Layne Staley. In one way or another, despite the significant tensions that existed among its members, the band managed to gather in the studio and record its third album from April to August 1995.
The album technically has no title and is referred to by the band's name or alternatively is known as the Dog Album, Dog Record, or even Tripod due to its cover. The album contains twelve new compositions that range between grunge and hard rock with several doom metal elements. The album's producer was Toby Wright, along with the band members.
The initial reception of the album was positive despite the fact that the grunge era seemed to be ending. Alice In Chains reached No. 1 on the Billboard, while in the United Kingdom it managed to reach No. 37. Its sales worldwide have exceeded 2,000,000 copies. This particular album was the last that Stanley recorded with Alice In Chains, as his addiction to heroin in the following years grew larger, making collaboration with him impossible.
