About the album In Utero
The third - and final studio album - of Nirvana sold over 5,000,000 copies in the U.S.A. alone. The singles Heart-Shaped Box and Rape Me reached No. 1 on the Billboard. It was recorded in 2 weeks in February 1993.
The promotion of the album with its first single, Heart-Shaped Box, was initially done through college radio stations and not mainstream radios. In the U.S.A., the album was initially released in only 25,000 vinyl copies, while in the rest of the world it was released normally on vinyl, cassette, and CD. Its release in the rest of the world took place on September 13, while in the U.S.A. on the 14th. All this was part of the marketing to create demand among the American audience.
The album reached No. 1 in the U.K. and U.S.A. at the moment of its release.
