About the album Wishbone Ash
The recording career of Wishbone Ash begins with a random yet fortunate incident. In early 1970, Wishbone Ash was opening for Deep Purple concerts. During some rehearsals that the latter were conducting, the guitarist of Wishbone Ash, Andy Powell, picked up his guitar and integrated himself into the Deep Purple's rehearsal, playing along. In the end, Ritchie Blackmore, thrilled by what he experienced, spoke with Purple's label, MCA Records, and suggested that they immediately sign a contract with Wishbone Ash (!) Andy Powell was then just twenty years old (!)
Thus, Wishbone Ash found themselves with Deep Purple's producer, Derek Lawrence, in London at De Lane Lea Studios, preparing the first album of the band from Devon, England. The debut album was a mix of blues rock, progressive rock (the second side of the album is covered by two compositions), and hard rock.
The album reached No. 29 in Great Britain, which meant that the future for this band seemed bright.
