Wonderworld by Uriah Heep
About the album Wonderworld
Wonderworld from 1974 is the seventh studio album by Uriah Heep and marks the end of the band's "golden era." The record continues in the spirit of its predecessor (Sweet Freedom), with a shift towards a more straight hard rock sound and shorter compositions in duration, setting aside the intense progressive elements of the past.
It was the band's second album recorded outside Great Britain (for tax reasons) at Musicland Studios in Munich, Germany. The recording period was tense due to the fatigue from continuous touring and internal friction, something that, according to members of the group, affected the final result. The cover was designed by Graham Hughes and depicts the band members as statues on pedestals. Mick Box is the only one barefoot as he forgot to bring shoes to the photoshoot (!), while Ken Hensley has repeatedly stated that he hates the particular artwork.
Wonderworld reached No. 23 in the United Kingdom and No. 38 in the USA, while it achieved great success in European countries such as Germany and Norway.
