About the album Ridin’ Dirty
Ridin’ Dirty is the third album by UGK, an album that was one of 2Pac's favorite listens (!), who praised it constantly shortly before his death. Ridin' Dirty was released in the summer of 1996, and UGK once again manage to prove that hip hop is not only an affair of the East or West Coast of the USA, but also that the South can offer remarkable samples of hip hop music.
In order to achieve the result they want on Ridin’ Dirty, UGK turn to samples from compositions by Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, George Duke, the Isley Brothers, and even Money by Pink Floyd (!)
The album reached No.15 on the main Billboard chart, while climbing to No.2 on the hip hop albums chart in the USA. Ridin’ Dirty sold 70,000 copies in its first week of release in the United States, and now its global sales are estimated at more than 850,000.
