With their self-titled debut in 1984, Run D.M.C. took Hip Hop to a different level, unlike anything that had come before. The entire album was created on the Oberheim DMX drum machine and incredible scratches on rock guitar solos. It certainly wasn't the best work of the hip hop group from New York, but it was groundbreaking in what it proposed.

The song It's Like That is considered one of the best hip-hop songs of all time. The following two singles from the album, Hard Times and Rock Box, are also noteworthy.

Run D.M.C. also participated in the production of their first album and had Larry Smith and Russell Simmons by their side.
