About the album For Your Love
The album For Your Love by The Yardbirds, released in July 1965, is a landmark in rock history, mainly due to the participation of two of the greatest guitarists of all time: Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. The title hit For Your Love was the reason Eric Clapton left the band, as he considered the sound too "pop" and far from his blues roots. The song was written by Graham Gouldman - later a member of 10cc. It is famous for the use of the harpsichord by Brian Auger, an unusual instrument for the pop/rock music of the time.
The record captures the change of guard in the band. Clapton plays on most of the tracks, but had already left before the album's release, disagreeing with the group's commercial turn. Beck appears on three tracks (I'm Not Talking, I Ain't Done Wrong, My Girl Sloopy), marking the beginning of his own era. It was the first studio album of the band released in the USA by Epic Records, while it was never officially released in the United Kingdom in its original form.
The album is a combination of singles, B-sides, and new recordings, produced by Giorgio Gomelsky. The For Your Love album reached No. 96 on the Billboard, while the title single became a worldwide hit, reaching No. 6 in the USA.
