About the album Five Live Yardbirds
Five Live Yardbirds is the debut album by the English rock band The Yardbirds, which was released in the United Kingdom on December 4, 1964, by Columbia Records. It was recorded live on March 20, 1964, at the legendary Marquee Club in London.
The album captures the energy of the band and their characteristic "rave-up" style, where they would extend the instrumental parts of the songs, escalating the intensity. The record includes ten covers of American blues and rhythm and blues songs. It is considered one of the earliest official recordings of Eric Clapton, who was then nicknamed "Slowhand".
Despite the fact that today it is regarded as one of the most important live albums of the '60s for the British scene, it did not manage to enter the UK charts in its initial release. In the USA, it was not released independently, but four of its songs were included in the later album Having A Rave Up (1965).
