About the album Setting The Woods On Fire

In 1994, The Walkabouts with the album Setting The Woods On Fire offer their loyal audience yet another highly respectable record containing twelve new compositions from the Seattle-based band, which at that time had become one of the musical epicenters of the world due to the rise of grunge. However, The Walkabouts seem not to shift even an inch from the sound that has characterized them already from their previous albums.

The formula followed is the same. Indie rock, alt-country, and folk rock. Some songs are performed by Carla Torgerson and others by Chris Eckman, while there is also the possibility that both sing together on a song, such as Promised, which closes the record. One of the most interesting moments is Hole In The Mountain in which The Walkabouts have the help of the Tiny Hot Orchestra Horns, a brass band that highlights the composition with the musical touches they offer. Setting The Woods On Fire was recorded in January and February of 1994 and Ed Brooks assisted The Walkabouts in the production of the album.

Setting The Woods On Fire did not become a huge commercial success, but it is one of the excellent albums released by The Walkabouts in the heart of the 1990s. This particular album was the last recorded by the band for Sub Pop.
