Zenyatta Mondatta by The Police
About the album Zenyatta Mondatta
The Police had achieved success with their first two albums at the end of the previous decade. The new decade found them touring non-stop and having very little time to write and record their third album. Thus, 1980's Zenyatta Mondatta was completed in four weeks. The band did not like the result at all. What the members of the band remember is that a few hours after the completion of the album, the group began its promotional tour starting from Belgium and ending in Australia.
The sound of the album is akin to that of the first two, meaning there is also a mix of rock, reggae, and less of punk. The musical style of The Police was about to change subsequently. In the production of the album along with the band was Nigel Gray, with whom they had collaborated on their other two studio works. The singles "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" were the first singles by The Police to enter the Top-10 of the Billboard chart.
The album also had a very good run, reaching No. 1 in the United Kingdom and No. 5 in the United States of America. Its sales today are estimated at a little over 3,000,000 worldwide.
