Outlandos d'Amour by The Police
About the album Outlandos d'Amour
In order to record Outlandos d'Amour, the Police borrowed a sum of money from the brother of drummer Stewart Copeland so they could enter the studio and record their first album. This process lasted from January to September of 1978. It was released at the end of 1978.
Before the official release of Outlandos d'Amour, the single Roxanne had preceded, which went unnoticed. The group was then given a second chance with Can't Stand Losing You, which achieved moderate success as it reached No. 42 in Britain. The single So Lonely also went unnoticed in Britain. However, when Roxanne as a single achieved success in early 1979 in the United States, it drew many people's attention in their homeland to the Police. Ultimately, the album impressed critics and audiences with its mix of reggae, rock, pop, and even punk elements in its compositions. The band's sound was then something very original and interesting.
The album reached No. 6 in Great Britain, while also making an impression across the Atlantic with the No. 22 it achieved on the Billboard. This was the beginning of a very successful journey that would follow for the group of Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland. The sales of Outlandos d'Amour have now exceeded 2,000,000 copies worldwide.
