Wild Planet by The B-52s
About the album Wild Planet
The wild gang of the B-52's headed again in April 1980 to the Bahamas at Compass Point Studios to record the second album of their career. The title of the new album is Wild Planet, and it is produced by Rhett Davies and themselves. Wild Planet sounds like the twin sibling of their debut since many of the songs were ready since 1978 and simply left out of the first album because the vinyl format couldn't accommodate more songs. Even the covers of the two albums are similar in concept and design.
Wild Planet is the continuation of the party that started with their debut. It's no coincidence that the album starts with the song Party Out Of Bounds, which was also the third single from the album. Under the umbrella of new wave, the B-52's mix disco, punk, and surf, creating an album extremely fresh in terms of sound for its time. The major hit from the album was the first single, Private Idaho.
The second album of the B-52's reached No.18 in both the USA and the UK. In 1981, following an idea by their manager, Gary Kurfirst, they released Party Mix! to remain in the spotlight as they recorded their third album. Party Mix! contained three and three songs - in different mixes - from their first two albums.
