About the album Speaking In Tongues
In their fifth studio album, Talking Heads focus on funk or rather funk rock with a wrapping of art rock and plenty of pop. The album's title was Speaking In Tongues and it was released in 1982. The compositions of all nine songs are the result of the efforts of all the members of the band. The same goes for the production of the album, in which they all participated together.
It is worth noting that the cover of Speaking In Tongues is a creation of David Byrne. David Byrne has stated regarding the writing of the lyrics of the songs that make up Speaking In Tongues that he started singing phrases that didn’t make sense, but then in a second process, he would sit down and add words and phrases, so that some meaning would emerge. The "discontinuity of the lyrics" is also evident in the way the band's name and the album's title are written on the cover. Ultimately, the result justified his approach.
The great success of the single Burning Down The House led the album to No. 15 on the Billboard and sales of around 1,000,000 copies in the U.S. It is considered the album that introduced Talking Heads to a broader audience.
