About the album By The Way
In 2002, the Red Hot Chili Peppers presented the twin sibling of Californication, known as By The Way. The producer once again was Rick Rubin, who had earned their trust as they felt he offered them complete creative freedom. The difference from their previous works is that the compositions are more melodic.
The process of writing the songs for the next album began immediately after the completion of the tour promoting Californication. Its recording lasted from November 2001 to May 2002. Apart from the sixteen songs that constituted By The Way, there was a plethora of other songs recorded that were not used. Many of them appeared as B-sides of some singles, or in 2014, there was a significant leak of these on the internet.
The 8,000,000 sales worldwide have made it one of the most popular albums of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
