About the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik
The fifth studio album by the Californians Red Hot Chili Peppers came at a turning point for the music industry as a new decade had just begun. Blood Sugar Sex Magik from 1991 would express these changes in a very characteristic way. Rap metal, funky rock, and a change in what had dominated as hard music in the previous decade.
Under the guidance of Rick Rubin in production, the band recorded the songs for one of the most interesting albums of the '90s. In order to create the appropriate atmosphere, Rubin had the idea to rent in Los Angeles the mansion where part of his life was lived by the magician Harry Houdini and to turn it into a recording studio. The specific building had the reputation of being haunted.
Blood Sugar Sex Magik became the album that Red Hot Chili Peppers were looking for. Worldwide recognition - MTV lent a hand - 14,000,000 copies in sales, and two of the most successful and beloved singles among fans of pop/rock music for the last decade of the 20th century: Give It Away and Under The Bridge.
