Core by Stone Temple Pilots
About the album Core
The Core by Stone Temple Pilots, released on September 29, 1992, is one of the most iconic and commercially successful albums of the '90s. It was the debut album of the band, which came from San Diego rather than Seattle, but their sound was associated with the grunge movement due to the "heavy" riffs and the characteristic baritone voice of Scott Weiland.
Almost all the lyrics were written by Scott Weiland, except for Creep (co-created with Robert DeLeo) and Plush (co-created with Eric Kretz). Bassist Robert DeLeo was the main composer of most of the hits (Plush, Creep, and Dead & Bloated), with significant contributions from guitarist Dean DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz. The album was produced by Brendan O'Brien. The cover of Core depicts a statue of the Virgin Mary surrounded by red flowers and candles. It was designed by Christian Clayton and reflects the dark, spiritual, and "earthy" atmosphere of the album.
Core is the most successful album by Stone Temple Pilots, having gone 8 times platinum in the U.S. (over 8 million copies). It reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
