Permanent Waves by Rush
About the album Permanent Waves
Permanent Waves is the seventh studio album by the Canadian progressive rock band Rush, which was released in January 1980. It marks a milestone in their career, as it signaled the transition from long, complex progressive compositions to shorter and more "radio-friendly" tracks, incorporating elements of new wave and even reggae.
It was recorded at Le Studio in Quebec, Canada, with mixing done at Trident Studios in London. All the lyrics were written by Neil Peart, except for Different Strings which was written by Geddy Lee. The production was handled by the band members and Terry Brown. The model on the cover is Paula Turnbull. The newspaper she is holding caused reactions from the Chicago Tribune newspaper due to the headline "Dewey Defeats Truman," resulting in later editions altering the headline.
It reached No.3 in Canada and the United Kingdom, and No.4 in the United States. It was their first album to enter the Top 5 in the United States. It became platinum in both Canada and the United States.
