About the album Green
R.E.M. are involved in the recording of their sixth studio album from May to September 1988. The recordings take place at Ardent Studios in Memphis and Bearsville Sound Studio in Woodstock. Thus, after painstaking efforts along with producer Scott Litt, Green is released in November 1988.
The album is a worthy successor to the previous one, and R.E.M. transform into the most notable indie rock band in the U.S., enjoying commercial appeal as well. Green would become the pinnacle of the career of the group from Athens, Georgia, for the 1980s. From there on, R.E.M. would enter another era with the arrival of the next decade. The change had taken place as the band inaugurates its collaboration with Warner Brothers with Green, having left behind I.R.S. Records with Document from the previous year. Green includes songs such as Stand, Orange Crush, and Pop Song 89. Songs that significantly characterized the band's early years.
Green reaches No. 12 on the Billboard and sells over 2,000,000 copies in the U.S. alone, where it goes double platinum, while at the same time, the same happens in Canada with its 200,000 sales. Simultaneously, Green greatly helps the band R.E.M. establish itself in the majority of many European countries.
