About the album Accelerate
R.E.M. return in 2008 with Accelerate, an album with a rough sound that expresses their anger about what is happening in the U.S.A. during those years. Here, a friend of the band has the chance to hear R.E.M. playing hard rock, punk rock, even glam rock.
To achieve the sound they wanted, after they first wrote the songs, they rehearsed them live for five consecutive nights in Dublin in front of an audience and then entered the studio for recording.
Accelerate reached No. 1 (UK) and No. 2 (USA).
