About the album Document

With Document, R.E.M. in 1987 will show the world their value and quality. Their fifth album will be the first album to provide tangible evidence of the group's subsequent career during the '90s.

Document is the record with which they will begin their collaboration with producer Scott Litt, who will be behind every major record released by the band from Athens, Georgia, until 1996.

The single The One I Love - and its video clip promotion by MTV - will play a decisive role in the album's success and R.E.M.'s overall career as it became their first single to enter the Billboard Top-10, while the entire album reached 1,000,000 sales in the U.S. and became their first platinum record in their home country.
