About the album Vs.
In late 1993, it was time for Pearl Jam's second studio album. The album's title was Vs. The bar for the young - at the time - group from Seattle had been set extremely high due to the massive success of their first album two years prior. The title was Vs., meaning against, as there were reports everywhere that Pearl Jam was in opposition to another band. The band members wanted to mock the whole situation that the media wanted to create.
With Vs., Pearl Jam inaugurated their collaboration with producer Brendan O'Brien, while the drummer on the second album was Dave Abbruzzese. The recording and completion of the album was eventful, as in the very first week the band completed four songs, but immediately afterwards, Eddie Vedder lost his creativity and couldn't continue. Eventually, after Vedder took a short trip to San Francisco to regain his inspiration, he returned to the studio, and the second album of Pearl Jam was slowly completed, with its sound being more relaxed and less rough than that of the first album.
Vs. reached No. 1 on the Billboard and No. 2 in the United Kingdom.
