About the album Wave
Wave is the fourth album by Patti Smith and the third and last one where the songwriter records as the Patti Smith Group. Producer of Wave was Todd Rundgren. Wave from 1979 came a year after the great success of Easter and received mixed reviews.
The sound of Wave moves between the art rock and pop/rock musical styles, while there is also a hint of psychedelia. The standout songs from the album were Frederick and Dancing Barefoot, songs that were later included in Patti Smith's song collections and concert setlists. After Wave, Patti Smith withdrew from the music industry for eight whole years.
The album reached No.18 on the Billboard. Comparatively, the album was successful in France, selling 100,000 copies.
