About the album Wave

Wave is the fourth album by Patti Smith and the third and last with which the songwriter records as Patti Smith Group. The producer of Wave was Todd Rundgren. The 1979 Wave came a year after the great success of Easter and received mixed reviews.

The sound of Wave moves between art rock and pop/rock music style, while there is also a taste of psychedelia. The songs that stood out from the album were Frederick and Dancing Barefoot, songs that were later included in Patti Smith's song collections and concert setlists. After Wave, Patti Smith retired from recording for eight whole years.

The album reached No.18 on the Billboard. Comparatively, the album was successful in France, selling 100,000 copies.
