Stankonia by Outkast
About the album Stankonia
The hip-hop duo Outkast from Atlanta are preparing and recording their fourth album at their own studio, the Stankonia Recording Tree Sound Studio. There, they have the advantage of not having time pressure from the record company to finish within a predetermined timeframe. Thus, the recordings will take up a large part of 1999 and 2000. Stankonia will eventually be released on the last day of October 2000.
Outkast's main aim was to create an album based on funk, gospel, soul, rock, and psychedelia. Several local stars from Atlanta's hip-hop scene, whom André 3000 and Big Boi discovered in various clubs, participated in the album. From Stankonia, the singles that stood out were B.O.B., Ms. Jackson, and So Fresh, So Clean.
Stankonia is a landmark album for what is known as southern hip hop. The album reached No. 2 on the Billboard and its sales (both physical & digital format) exceeded 5,000,000 copies just in the U.S. In the 2000-2009 decade's review, Stankonia ranked 75th on Billboard's official chart among all the albums of the decade released throughout the decade in the United States.
