Aquemini by Outkast
About the album Aquemini
The third album by Outkast, Aquemini, was released on September 29, 1998, and its title is derived from the combination of their zodiac signs: Aquarius (Big Boi) and Gemini (André 3000), symbolizing the clash and union of their two different personalities.
The musical style is experimental and eclectic, marrying southern hip hop with live funk, soul, gospel instruments, even psychedelic rock. The album marked the duo's transition to a more active role in production, with Big Boi and André 3000 signing about half of the tracks, in collaboration with Organized Noize and Mr. DJ. The lyrics are introspective and socially conscious, covering topics from parental responsibility to criticism of the music industry. Rosa Parks, Da Art of Storytellin' (Pt. 1), and the epic seven-minute SpottieOttieDopaliscious are standout tracks.
The album debuted at No.2 on the Billboard 200 and has been certified double platinum. It is considered one of the greatest albums in hip hop history.
