About the album Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?
The second album by Megadeth was recorded and released in 1986, while all the band members were facing serious issues due to substance abuse. The album was named Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? and was another significant contribution to the thrash metal scene in California. During the creation of the album, the band left Combat Records for the significantly larger Capital Records. On the cover of the album, we see for the first time Vic Rattlehead, the band's mascot, who was mentioned in the song The Skull Beneath The Skin on the first album. It is a creation by designer Ed Repka.
The album's production was done by Dave Mustaine and Randy Burns. The band's original intent was to create songs that would convey social and political messages to their audience. Seven of the eight songs on the album are compositions by Dave Mustaine, while I Ain't Superstitious is a cover of a song by Willie Dixon from 1961.
Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? managed to reach No. 76 on the Billboard, sell 1,000,000 copies over the years in the United States, and eventually become a landmark album for the early years of the thrash metal scene.
