Battle Hymns by Manowar
About the album Battle Hymns
Battle Hymns - but also Manowar - was the result of the meeting and friendship that developed between Joey DeMaio (bass) and Ross the Boss (guitar) during Black Sabbath's Heaven & Hell Tour - both worked for this tour - where the two decided to form their own band. The first recording effort of Manowar was Battle Hymns in 1982, an album that was mocked at the time, while now it is considered the cornerstone of power metal.
The album was recorded at Criteria Recording Studios in Miami. Due to a lack of money, the equipment used was that of their concerts, resulting in the sound coming from their own recording space being so loud that the Bee Gees, who were recording two rooms away, couldn't make their own recording and... that's how the legend was created of the band that plays louder than all other bands.
At the time of its release, Battle Hymns did not achieve a notable position on any charts. Despite the fact that the album includes the song Manowar, which describes how the band was formed, the debut was not named after this song but after Battle Hymn, with which the group's first album concludes. In 2010, the album was recorded again and released under the title Battle Hymns MMXI.
