About the album Up Your Alley

Released in May 1988, Up Your Alley is the sixth studio album by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, marking a spectacular commercial comeback. The album features a guest appearance by former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor, who plays the distinctive guitar solo on "I Hate Myself For Loving You."

The recording sessions took place primarily at the legendary The Hit Factory in New York, with additional sessions at Record Plant, Bearsville, and Dreamland Studios. The musical style of Up Your Alley is tailored to its era, blending glam metal and hard rock. Production was handled by her long-time collaborator Kenny Laguna, alongside Ric Browde and the era's "hitmaker" Desmond Child, who gave a more polished, hard rock sound to the album's biggest hits. At the heart of the album stands the iconic "I Hate Myself for Loving You," which climbed to No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, followed by the successful single "Little Liar" (No. 19).

The album reached No. 19 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum in the U.S., surpassing 1,000,000 sales.
