About the album Appetite For Destruction
The Guns 'n' Roses come out of nowhere, or rather from some small rock clubs in Los Angeles, and they level everything with the first (or rather with the second, since Geffen Records insisted on supporting the album through advertising and giving it a second chance). Appetite For Destruction becomes the ultimate debut - at least - for the '80s.
Its initial release happened in 1987, but it took a year and continuous advertising campaign through MTV's airing of its video clips. The album remained known not only for its songs but also for its cover, which was banned as it showed a woman who had just been raped by a robot(!). The album later changed its cover.
Appetite For Destruction sold 30,000,000 copies worldwide, 18,000,000 of them in the USA (it is the seventh best-selling album of all time).
