Mr. Universe by Gillan
About the album Mr. Universe
The band Gillan was a short-lived group that essentially supported Ian Gillan's recording efforts in the late '70s and early '80s. The album Mr. Universe is the second album by Gillan out of the five they recorded.
Mr. Universe was recorded in the summer of 1979. The compositions are a result of the collaboration between Ian Gillan and the keyboardist Colin Towns, who is one of the band's members and shares part of the responsibility for the album's production along with Ian Gillan. Ian Gillan - once again - transmits and implants in the album's compositions what he has learned to write and create with Deep Purple. One can easily find "hidden" similarities in Roller and Highway Star (!). The album can be classified among the early British heavy metal albums due to the heavy music of many of its songs.
This particular album reached No. 11 in Britain.
