About the album Love Over Gold

Love Over Gold from 1982 would be the fourth studio effort by Dire Straits. The musical style of the album moves between art rock and jazz rock. The five compositions of the album belong to Mark Knopfler. For the recording needs, the band found themselves in New York, where they recorded Love Over Gold at the Power Station studio, a recording that lasted from March to June 1982.

Mark Knopfler himself was the producer of the album. Love Over Gold begins with the 14-minute Telegraph Road, which is the longest song of the band. This album was the last recording with Dire Straits for drummer Pick Withers, who felt that the style of Dire Straits no longer suited him.

The sales of the album reach approximately 3,000,000 copies worldwide with 500,000 of those sold in Germany. In Great Britain, sales are estimated to be around 600,000.
