About the album Brothers In Arms

When in 1985 the Dire Straits released their fifth studio album, Brothers In Arms, one could hardly call the reviews they received positive. The negative criticism was mainly aimed at Mark Knopfler and his guitar technique. In this album, the blues elements that dominated their compositions a few years earlier had disappeared and in their place was the sound of the mainstream rock of that era.

The public, however, spoke quite differently: 14 weeks at No.1 in Britain, 9 weeks at No.1 in the USA, 34 weeks at No.1 in Australia. To achieve all this, the single Money For Nothing played a huge role.

Brothers In Arms became the first album to go 10 times platinum in Britain and 9 times in the USA. The total sales are at 30,000,000 copies (!)
