The Battle Rages On... by Deep Purple
About the album The Battle Rages On...
The Battle Rages On... is the fourteenth studio album by Deep Purple, released in July 1993. It is of historical significance as it constitutes the last recording of the classic Mark II lineup. The album was recorded between May 1992 and March 1993 in three studios: Bearsville (New York), Red Rooster (Germany), and Greg Rike (Florida). The creation of the album began with Joe Lynn Turner, but after his dismissal, Gillan returned and rewrote the lyrics and melodies. This enraged Blackmore, who mocked the album by calling it "The cattle grazes on."
The album treads familiar paths with heavy riffs from Ritchie Blackmore and the characteristic sound of Jon Lord's Hammond organ. The title track (The Battle Rages On) touches the limits of heavy metal with an imposing and dark rhythm. We frequently encounter oriental musical scales and an "epic" atmosphere, especially in the tracks The Battle Rages On and Anya, which is considered by many to be the highlight of the album, reminiscent of the great moments of Rainbow. This was also the first single, followed by Time To Kill. The album was produced by Thom Panunzio and Roger Glover.
The Battle Rages On... reached No. 21 on the British charts, but only No. 192 on the Billboard. The global sales of the album are estimated to be around 100,000 copies.
