About the album Stormbringer

Stormbringer was released in November 1974. It was the second album by Deep Purple released in 1974, the first was Burn at the beginning of the year, the second album with the Mark III lineup, that is, with David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, and the last with Ritchie Blackmore in the lineup, at least for the 1970s. The latter left, strongly disagreeing with the blues and funky direction the band was taking.

The album cover is an edited photograph of a tornado that struck Minnesota on July 8, 1927. The same photograph had been used a few years earlier for the cover of Miles Davis's Bitches Brew, and would be used again in 1986 for the cover of the album Tinderbox by Siouxsie and the Banshees. The production was by Martin Birch.

The album Stormbringer reached No. 6 in the United Kingdom and No. 20 in the U.S.
