About the album Lodger

On May 25, 1979, Lodger, the thirteenth album by David Bowie, is released, as well as the third of the "Berlin Trilogy.” As expected, here we also encounter the usual suspects Tony Visconti in production, Carlos Alomar on guitar, and Brian Eno on synthesizers. This time, however, the latter two have more involvement in the songwriting as well. The album's title, Lodger, according to the artist himself, indicates his then desire not to live somewhere permanently, but to roam various parts of the world, to be a citizen of the world.

Lodger continues in the same art rock style of the previous two albums but seems to be the weakest of the three. The ambient style has noticeably decreased, and a new wave approach to things begins to appear in songs like Red Sails or Look Back In Anger. Additionally, world music also makes its appearance through the compositions of African Night Flight and Yassassin.

The album reached No. 4 in Great Britain and No. 20 on the Billboard charts in the USA.
