Spectres by Blue Öyster Cult
About the album Spectres
The album Spectres is the fifth studio work of the American rock band Blue Öyster Cult, released in November 1977 by Columbia Records.
The album Spectres was recorded between July and September 1977 at the Record Plant studio in New York City. Its production was an effort to replicate the commercial success of the previous album Agents Of Fortune, with a more polished and personal sound. The album was produced by the band's regular collaborators Murray Krugman, Sandy Pearlman, and David Lucas, along with the band itself. The biggest hit from the album is the well-known Godzilla, which remains a trademark of their concerts to this day. This album is considered by many fans as the culmination of the Blue Öyster Cult's "mainstream" yet dark period.
Although it did not surpass its predecessor in sales, Spectres had a respectable performance. It went gold in the U.S. in January 1978, exceeding 500,000 copies. On the Billboard Top-200 it reached No. 43, in the United Kingdom No. 60, in France No. 28, in Sweden No. 47, and in Canada No. 58.
