About the album Cultösaurus Erectus

The New Yorkers Blue Öyster Cult will enter the studio in 1979 and in 1980 they will present their seventh studio album titled Cultösaurus Erectus. The album is a collection of songs whose themes deal, in the band's familiar manner, with issues touching on science fiction. The impressive cover is a detail from the painting "Behemoth's World" by the English painter Richard Clifton-Dey.

Cultösaurus Erectus is characterized by impeccable production, attributed to the British producer Martin Birch, who is going through a highly creative period and who offers them the best he can think of. It is no coincidence that in the middle of The Marshall Plan the riff of Smoke On The Water is heard, since Birch was also the producer of Deep Purple's Machine Head.

The album managed to reach No. 12 in England and No. 34 in the U.S.A. The promotion of the album took place through the legendary "Black and Blue" tour during which Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio and Blue Öyster Cult appeared together in the U.S.A.
